Career and Life Management (CALM)
The Career and Life Management program (CALM), which is a compulsory program, is designed to provide senior high school students with opportunities to develop and practice communication and thinking skills in situations that will help them to build confidence in their ability to cope with the stress of living within a rapidly changing society. Successful benchmarks for students will be to make well-informed, considered decisions and choices in all aspects of their lives and to develop behaviors and attitudes that contribute to the well-being and respect of self and others, now and in the future. CALM is the core course for health literacy at the senior high school level in Alberta. The aim of the CALM course is articulated through three general outcomes: Personal Choices, Resource Choices, and Career and Life Choices taken from the Alberta Education Program of Study for Career and Life Management which students and parents are encouraged to visit, www.education.alberta.ca.
